CIGNYC’s central mission is to create a camp that truly embodies the spirit of the Equal Protection Clause. The force behind this Clause is Thaddeus Stevens. In his last speech to Congress, he stated (1868), “If members of Congress would fling away ambition and realize that every human being, however lowly-born or degraded by fortune, is your equal and that every inalienable right that belongs to you also belongs to him, truth and righteousness will spread over the land.” The central objective is to make the clause a reality, it has eluded the nation’s children for centuries. Data on youth in American cities shows a sharp disparity refuting Stevens’ ideological concept of true equality for the nation’s children. The interaction between children from different social classes aids social sophistication, making kids understand the importance of mindfulness and collective care.
